it is somewhat overshadowed by Glasgow and Edinburgh, Aberdeen is the centre of a vibrant university; it boasts some marvellous
museums and galleries; and it's well known for great nightlife
and shopping, the best in the northeast.

Located in the city centre, is believed to have been founded
in about 580 A.D and became a Cathedral in 1131. Guided tours
of the cathedral are conducted and multi-lingual tapes are
available. Entrance is free but it is usual to make a donation.
Is dedicated to the maritime history of
the North Sea. Admission to the museum is free.
Houses a superb art collection spanning the
14th to the 21st century.
Is dedicated to one of the British
Army's most famous regiments and contains numerous treasures
gathered over a period of 200 years. Housed in the former
home of artist Sir George Reid it has a tea room and gift
shop.
The main shopping districts centre on speciality shops on
Chapel and Thistle Streets and the well-known chains on George
and Union Streets. Of interest to collectors, Colin Wood,
25 Rose St., stocks furniture, wall clocks, and grandfather
clocks from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. Its specialty
is maps from the Elizabethan through the Victorian eras. It
also sells 17th- to early-20th-century prints of northern
Scotland. Browse through the eclectic mix of bric-a-brac antiques
at Elizabeth Watts Studio, 69 Thistle St. where items include
glass, brass, antique jewellery, china, silver, and a few
